Claiming Prizes
There are various ways to claim lottery prizes in USA. For most prizes you can just visit your local store, but for larger amounts you will need to claim by post or go to a head office. The exact rules vary between states, but remember that you need to collect prizes in the same jurisdiction as you purchased your ticket.
The good news is that you don’t need to pay any tax on lottery prizes won in USA. If you’re playing an international game and win a major prize you’ll need to check about taxes with the provider you are using and a financial expert.
Lottery Cards
If you become a registered player, you will be given a lottery card and then a record will be kept of every ticket you purchase. It’s a great way to make sure you don’t miss out on a prize. If you win a jackpot, for example, lottery officials will be able tell who bought it and contact you to start the claims process.
There are different player cards in different states, from the Winners Circle in Queensland to TattsCards in Victoria, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.
Scams
Find out how to spot lottery scams and what you should do if you receive one. Lottery fraud can come in many guises, but remember that it's impossible to win a prize if you haven't bought a ticket.
